Re: The "Original" Floyd Rose tremolo

hi
i do cut off enough of the string
i don´t lock the centerwire but the whole string
i do thigthen the locking screw very tight
maybe i should have mentioned that i solder the tip of the string for some reason of habit( i think i read that once as a tip on some forum, making it easier to keep the strings in tune when you trem)
yesterday evening i tried it again without the soldering and it worked
but i still have the problem with the saddles and their hight
i changed around a bit and now it´s quite ok but still not fine
on stew mac i found 3 types of saddles: each for the 1/6, 2/5, 3/4. string
my saddles are stamped the following way:
1 is not stamped, 2 have a "1", 3 have a "2"
is that correct? shouldn´t there be a pair of each?
thanks
andy

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes, a pair of each. Someone must have fuc*** with your saddles. They should be lined up as this:

Also, did you search this forum Tech Q&A for 'tremolo'? There's a lot of tremolo related threads with all kinds of info and pictures.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You're not going to see an improvement from soldering the string ends when you have a Floyd bridge. Soldering used to be a fix for the ball end of the string, to prevent the braiding there to move (must've been some damn crappy strings to do that). With a Floyd though, you either cut the ball end off or have it behind the locking nut, making it a non-issue.

Possibly the solder was the problem all the time. The pic says it all.I don't know how many floyds I've fixed for people that have taken them apart and not put them back together correctly.Always look at the saddles they should always be like what you see in the pic.
Really? well screw Mark Twain.

ok
i also found this picture yesterday, and i had a look in the evening: they´re in this way now since i´ve changed them around on wednesday
but they´re stamped as i described !?!?!?
i´ll go for some new saddles (when i afford them) but for the next weeks it will work properly as it is now
the only thing left is the intonation at the low C (string gauge 52), there i´m at the end of the way with the saddle; but it´s very very little, actually not to be mentioned
the other strings are just fine
thanks again for your help bro´s

i beleive it goes:
1 on the outsieds.(high and low e)
2 in the next slots in. (b and a)
and the no lables in te center. (g and d)

Re: The &quot;Original&quot; Floyd Rose tremolo

I have 2 OFR's from the early to mid 80's and a newer FR PRO, I had to take the bar out of one older one and put it in the PRO because I couldn't stand the arm coming loose! The old OFR's could be tightened up good! And when they are good and tight and you slam it for some flutter, look out!
