Well, if you ask an electronics house for shielded guitar wire/cable they have no idea what you're saying.

Tell them you need 18 gauge shielded (not bare) copper wire, braided or solid-core, makes no difference.

18 gauge wire is 0.0403" in diameter.
The higher the number, the thinner the wire.
0.18" = 5 gauge wire.
Just to give you a point of reference, most home electrical wiring is between 12 and 14 gauge wiring.
