I think it's got more to do with the pickup height which might have changed.

That, and if you get the super-cooled liquid nitrogen filled ones, you run the risk of spillage if you move around too much on stage and you could get it on your fingers and then they'd just snap right off. Might look neat on stage, but not very practical for a guitarist.

Wow...Fingers snapping right off in the middle of a gig......that would kinda ruin the evening huh.
