Another thing I do for any pots that 'spin freely' is to take some 1/4" to 3/8" thick foam (the foam that comes with EMG pickups works great) and I make a 'washer' out of the foam with some small sissors. I remove the knob, put the foam over the pot shaft, re-install the knob. The foam, when cut to the right diameter, fits into the recess that seems to be underneath all knobs so it is not visible. The foam acts like a damper and helps keep the knob where you set it. You can adjust how much 'friction' you want the foam to give by moving the knob position slightly up or down on the pot shaft and/or use two foam washers.

The foam is cheap and quick and the result is the feel of a 'tight' pot like the type Straycat mentions.
