  • Pickup question.

    Hi.
Why do some guitars have slanted pickups?
Does It make any difference to the sound?

It'll change the sound a little. Slanted up on the bass side will bring a little more low end to the low E, A and D strings since it's now closer to the neck. Slanted up on the treble side will bring more low end to the high E, B and G strings.

Thanks for the info! But If you have a slanted humbucker, doesn't the polepieces miss the strings, if you know what I mean? Or are they special humbuckers?

Well, EVH used to slant them mainly because the poles on the old pickups back then wouldn't line up correctly with Fender or Floyd bridges, which is why DiMarzio made F-spaced pups and Duncan made trembuckers. Personally, I don't think it really matters much if the poles line up or not; though, other people say they can hear a difference.
