I was told that the neck itself might be too high at the heel, and that the neck pocket will need routing or the neck will need to be shaved at the heel.

Yes. Hope it ain't the case for you. I've never had a Model 1, so I'm not sure if you'll have to or not. If you have a short clearance between your strings and the BODY of the guitar(like a Strat), then it shouldn't be a problem. If you have a big gap, like a Les Paul, it will be. I think the Model 1 shouldn't be a problem though. Guys here have done this before, I'm sure of it.

you'll be fine in this case, the heel and pocket depth are compatible.
