Shim the nut?

When moving to heavier strings (9's to 10's) should the nut be shimmed?

only if it is causing the strings to buss at the first fret, or if you just want them higher. if it is a standard nut you may have to widen the slots.

The nut shouldn't need shimmed. If it does, there is probably a problem with the nut and the thicker strings just made it more noticeable.

The bottom of the string will be the same height off the board for any gauge of string. You may have to tweak the truss rod though.

Forgot to state it was for a locking nut.
I just seem to be getting alot of fret buzz on a couple of my floyded guitars and thought it was due to the 10's I use rather than the 9's that would have been on them originally.
Have been getting alot of low end fret buzz. Which bugs me.

raising the nut will only help the string buzz for open strings. if you have buzz on fretted strings this will not help, you may need to adjust the truss rod, and or bridge height.
