If you were asking me, I used my random orbital and started with 120 grit until I saw hints of the sealer then switched to 300. I moved the sander pretty quick on the neck as to not get too deep per pass. The inside of the horns I did with the same grits but by hand. Just be careful of the edges and on the neck and it goes pretty quick.

Scrape, scrape, scrape if you insist on getting to bare wood. But if it is your first time doing a guitar, I would suggest knocking back the millage of paint, then prime. You can knock it back a ways and utilize the factory cured sealer base. It is not necessary to strip a body. Unless someone beat you to it with a couple cans of crylon. In that case, Scrapers rock. Less mess. Good work out. But just wear safety glasses.

sorry to resurrect...I'm in the process of stripping a body. I found that using a razor blade works pretty well. +1 on the safety glasses, don't ask me how I know this. I'm several hours into it and I'm glad I started with the flat parts. If I had started with the horns/bouts, I would probably have given up.
I still keep practicing though.... Mostly because I hate my neighbors.-MakeAJazzNoiseHere
