Truss rod question

    OK. Unless I'm confused as to how a neck works... There's minimum 1/4" relief (upbow) in the neck. As in the string height is 1/4" lower in the middle of the bridge than it is at the nut or the heel, right? So even if dropping the bridge or shimming the neck gets string height at the heel to a decent height, when you fret the middle of the neck, wouldn't the string be hitting the last fret (or last few)?

    (PS - I'm not arguing to be combative, just trying to understand the issue..)

      @ Warlock, yes there is a relief issue in the neck. I just want to minimize it to the smallest possible factor, if it could be cut in half ~ IMHO, it would be very playable. Dropping the bridge may present some string issues at the last fret if overdone, I was talking about lowering it to the point right before it becomes a problem, ultimately I'm trying to learn some things as well.           stand up the bass. look down both sides of the neck (from the headstock) to check if the neck is not warped. if it's just upbowed, you'll need to tighten it. use a little wd40 to loosen the truss rod if necessary.
