I guess I'm not too picky about tension, but I don't like the loose/buzzy sound you get with tiny strings flopping around the fretboard at lower tunings.

That's what bothers me too, although with the amp at any real volume you can't hear it anyway. After playing my RG with the Beefy Slinky's and going back to my Soloist with 10 - 46, they feel so thin, but tension is still there.
