string tension

I had a Charvel 650XL that I upgraded with chrome hw and EMG's. It was an awesome guitar to behold but the trem was always very stiff. I tried everything to loosen the tension but anything I did affected the height of the Schaller trem. It was so stiff I hated playing it so ended up getting rid of the guitar. It was a bummer that it wasn't comfortable.

Did you try using less springs? Or different springs that were less stiff?

I tried

I did try removing a spring and adjusting the tension but I couldn't get it tuned and also keep the bridge level. It was all jacked-up so I pretty much gave up on using the trem. I blocked the trem, added a D-Tuna, and made it my drop-D axe. After all the hassles, my relationship with the guitar soured and we parted ways. The friend who owns it now is very pleased. He's not a trem guy.
