  • SLXXX for 400$

So in my pointless craigslist raids I finally found something good.

    The description says:

" Great guitar for metal shredding!

Late 80's Jackson Soloist, neck through body, ebony fretboard, EMG 81 in the bridge. Recently set up, action is low and fast. Floyd Rose floating bridge. Middle pup included- I had it removed for playability. Includes OHSC.

    Cash only-local only."

And there are a few pictures:

Now, I know nothing about this guitar.
    Is it a good deal?
Can anyone get me more info ( according to the looks)

How much would a new one go for today?

If I buy it for 400 and add a neck humbucker (like 300$ more max), will the value rise or go down?

by add a neck hum i mean i will get it routed

    Thanks.

    More like early 90's.
Ask for better pictures of the headstock and trem... looks like a Professional (Import) model.
And adding a humbucker in the neck position will reduce it's resale value.

The pics suck, but I think that may be an import Soloist Standard. Compare it to this catalog scan:

I'd ask for better pics or at least a full description of what's on the headstock and truss rod cover.

        student soloist....
"slappy, slappy" bill sings, happily, as he dick slaps random people on the streets of Cleveland.

Imo the bridge looks like a jt-580 so I don't think it's a student soloist so it's not late 80s either

          We definitely need better pics

Yep, that recessed 580 was what made me think mid-90s Pro. I'm pretty sure it'll turn out to be a '93 or '94 Standard.

It says "Soloist STD" on the headstock...

                It's an import.
                Early 90's.
Based on the pics, it's not in the greatest of shape.
$400 is pushing it a bit.

Lowball the seller, I'm sure he will go down! Then after you grab the guitar for a good price you'll see for yourself if it's worth the hassle to modify or not.

Btw if I were you I'd just drop in a junior hum instead of routing it
