        One of my custom shop Rhoads has a 3/4" maple top for this reason as well. It is has mahogany body and neck and it is not as bright as my alder bodied, maple necked guitar.

          I think 3/4" is kind of the traditional thickness, going back to the Les Paul. Of course, the arching on the LP top isn't as dramatic, so only the very center of the top is 3/4". Either way, I don't think you'll have a problem--in fact, as long as the mahogany body is standard thickness, the extra maple will probably help your attack and punch, and it shouldn't be too bright.
