  • NGD: SL1 Lightning sky graphic

https://imgur.com/a/wzTnbM4 (Bonus J/C family couch pic)

I purchased this guitar through the forum here technically. It arrived safe and sound yesterday and I have been tinkering with the setup and tuning and feel like it is ready to go. Amazing guitar in amazing condition. The only real blemish is the back of the head stock tip which is so common. I really enjoy the neck profile. It is very reminiscent of my 86 model 6 but wider. The guitar is surprisingly heavy though. Overall worth every penny at 850 shipped with the original grey chainsaw case.

Any way to determine the exact year? Serial # is U02669

Nice looking soloist and cool J/C family. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of early USA Jacksons in my log but based on the few I have, this would have a build date in 1994. Mudlark or a few other members here might be able to confirm or give you a better date estimate.

Thanks!! I knew it to be early 90's but closer is better.

        So glad it arrived safe!

1994 according to the Jackson website: https://www.jacksonguitars.com/support/neck-thru

As stated in the title of the original post (https://www.jcfonline.com/threads/15...-Sky-(USD-800)), it's a Soloist Custom. The SL1 model designation didn't debut until 1996, but essentially the Soloist Custom evolved into the SL1.

If you check page 10 of 15 of the PDF catalog scan from 1994-95 (https://assets.ctfassets.net/4jcppge...95-catalog.pdf), you'll see the Soloist Custom, replete with Bill Lawrence L500XL and JT590 trem factory fitted, as opposed to the 1996-onwards SL1 which had Duncans and OFR.

Awesome, thanks again Priest. I love that these catalogues are still available for this kind of info.

Not sure if the BL will stay. I like it, but I don't know if I love it. Same with the trem.

Now that I look at that family portrait and all the crackles, I understand Entrails4U's expertise on crackles: https://www.jcfonline.com/threads/15...=1#post1676011

I was so tempted by it, but I just can't justify another guitar as I've thinned my heard way down. That and the fact I can't stand a middle pickup on a guitar kept me from being "competition". It was a damn good score!

Middle pickup isn't my favorite thing either... It will get tightened all the way down. I've already been annoyed and ruined a pick..... But that wasn't enough to deter me. Last one I saw sold on ebay was really beat up and went for 1250 plus shipping with only a gig bag! I thought about haggling a little but it was already too good of a deal.

I would not have bought if it was over a grand. That family pic is only half my collection... I've a couple BC Rich's (Chuck Shuldiner stealth which I got with a hard case for $400 (and it's clean!)... and an NJ warlock(crackle)) and a few other misc. guitars.
