  • NGD: Check out my new (to me) 1989 custom strat!

Don't worry... I have no intentions of selling this! I'm a long-time Jackson/Charvel owner (1984ish Model 4 Charvel, 1993 dinky reverse Jackson Professional, and now this one). I just thought you all might like a look and have some interesting comments.

This seems to me to have a number of rare options on it, including a single piece body (probably ash) with a natural (possibly trans ivory) finish, a tune-o-matic bridge, and three humbuckers. The middle one is the original Jackson (not sure which type), and it has a Duncan Jazz in the neck, and a Duncan distortion in the bridge. The tonal variety is pretty impressive.

It's also a 22 fret (which is hopefully obvious) and has a beautiful ebony fretboard.

FYI this was a craigslist purchase. $450 including a chainsaw case!

It did need about $50 of work though, especially to replace the nut, which had been butchered by musicgoround.

I've never seen one like that! Nice score!

Beautiful. String thru guitars from that era don't seem to show up very often.

Yes, this is a rather rare config -- three hums plus string through! I didn't believe it was original when Bad Apple asked me about it (before I sent him here), but as far as I can tell it's mostly stock.

Yeah, that's right. I had a brain fart about when I was in college. It's an '86 or '87.

I might be selling the dinky reverse now that I have the custom. About the only thing making me keep it is the ridiculously thin neck.

And, while I'm here, here's the full collection:

                http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/...ps07aa2ce5.png

                Left to right, they are:

1992 USA Peavey Predator with Rio Grande pickups and a Roland GK-2
                1989 Jackson USA custom strat
                1989 PRS Custom 24 with 10 top
                1997 Parker Nitefly
                1997 Godin LGX-SA
                1993 Jackson professional dinky reverse
                1986 Charvel model 4

I technically have a few others (a travel guitar, an acoustic, a mandolin and a bass), but these are, at least, all the full-size electrics.

I'd love to hear anybody's thoughts on this one (wood/color and the options), if there are knowledgable people out there.

I'm also curious if I got a good deal. I think I did, but I don't really know the value. And, again, I'm not selling it!

There was a Professional series Stealth HX made in the early '90s that was also H/H/H, 22 frets and string-thru. Quite rare to see that configuration, indeed!

Welcome to the forum, Bad Apple. That's a sweet guitar! Looks like a trans whitewash finish on swamp ash body.

That's definitely an oddball. I'd be interested in seeing pics of the neck heel and neck cavity.

yeah, string thru on a bolt-on is pretty 'unusual', especially from that time.

                            Axeweilder,

I have a pic of the neck pocket that the seller had posted. It's out of focus, unfortunately, but I tried to enhance it. I'll get better ones someday.

                            But, here's what it says:

There's a date of 5/6/89, and a WO number of 5869 (which is an odd coincidence). The neck is OBD. And it _looks_ like it says "tower" with a circled "V." I have no idea if those last two are correct!

                              Thanks, toejam.

I searched high and low for information on the color, and whitewash is one I never came across. Sounds totally believable, though! I only picked ivory because I found a guitar and a bass online with trans ivory on ash and it looked very similar (though maybe a touch more yellow).

I wish I could find copies of the order forms from back then... or (of course) get information from Jackson. Hahahahaha!
