  • Jb sounds to thin in my sl2 need a thick and heavey pickup??

Need something to bring this guitar to life makes me mad that my sg standard blows it away tone wise it has emg's but not wanting to go that route it has a brass block need something to sound like my Wolfgang standard ? I want passive pick ups what's up on Thea's bareknucle pick up's kinda ugly I know some guys will say tone zone air norton but I want this as my go to guitar not just an average play every once in a while deal

Duncan Distortion. I just got done playing both. If you like the JB tone, but want a little more in the bottom, this is it. Or step up to and Invader.

The trade off is that the JB has the best "soloing" tone, hence, the correct pickup in a "soloist"

Yea but the pinch harmonics don't compare to the emg. Also had a a Duncan distortion in a carvin I really don't rember it standing out to me. I do have s Duncan custom in a Floyd USA strat but haven wired it yet need to to see what they sound like

I jus hate putting iit back in the case and grabbing something else just because it lacks balls even though it's of course the pest player of the bunch

Leave the jb in there and swap the volume pot for a 250k pot. Fattens up the jb nicely

What dose the 250 k pot do I thought it lowers the out put all together like as running it like at half volume?

@jdr 94 bout to look it up.

It shaves off the highs. Less highs = more bass = fatter sound.

And 250K is not 1/2 volume of 500K. Your ear is logrithmic (if I spelled that right). 250K is like a 1/10th drop, buy this still isn't happening because the 250K isn't wired as a voltage divider, as a 500K set to 250K would be.

But to get the idea, turn your volume down 1 and see if it makes a difference.

I know its not a US Jackson but the jb in the elite Soloist I got sounded a little thin also. The output wasn't as good as I wanted it either. Rather than install another pickup I decided to try out the new Duncan Blackout preamp. It brought the guitar to life. Really hot output and the jb sounds good and beefy now. Also the jazz in the neck sounds thick as can be now.

Someone on the Orange amps forum mentioned that they had a JB that sounded thin the other day... I had a KE3 with a JB in it and it was the fattest sounding thing I've ever heard! Switching from my ESP with EMGs to the KE3 was like flicking to the neck pickup of the ESP!

Having said that, if you're really not feeling the JB then how about a DiMarzio Tone Zone? Loads of mids, that'll be fat...

I put an alt8 in my Jackson and it sounds like a hotter jb.

Invader. Can't think of a thicker sounding pickup.
