  • Just for Corpsegrinder...and anyone else that wants to look lol...rr and dinky porn

Bob has been chompin at the bit to see this one for a while now. I have been hesitant to post it as I generally dont keep v's and didnt want any bs about it. But this one is IMO too cool not to share. as for the dinky, it is the cleanest vintage piece i have ever seen. I have had this one a while and just got it back from NY. The graphic photographs bland but to be honest at least in my eyes its a cool one. Doing a little cleaning on my collection and some building lately and thinking of moving these to pay for a custom job I spoke to Mike Learn about a few weeks ago. anyway

this one is in decent shape, im going to take care of the clear chips on the wing tips since its just surface clear i can make that look nice and clean, the only other issue is a bit of what i will call delam around the neck base on the front. Not to sure but i havent seen too many of these around.

I assume this era would be a Rhoads custom..?

If anyone has suggestions on how to photograph this i would be very appreciative. i spent 45 minutes trying various settings and the only way to capture the color is to take it out of focus. I am pretty good at getting shots but this one is more difficult than any interference or other color i have worked with.

This is so agitating to look at as it does this guitar absolutely no justice.

    heres the dinky

I dunno why but i always like this one lol. it plays amazing and honestly looks like it has barely ever been touched; even the board looks new. Anyway enjoy

Wouldn't the U serial indicate a USA Select RR1 series? (albeit an early one)

IIRC the customs would have an RR serial in most cases. Regardless, it's a sweet axe...

The U numbers pre-date the RR1 and select designations, just like they pre-date the SL1 name. I think it was 94-95 (?) that they started using the letter letter number model names. The U numbers started in 1990. Not sure when the select tag came into use, but it was after that.

The soloists back then were called soloists or soloist customs, but I'm not sure if the Rhoads back then were called Rhoads customs, or just Rhoads, or both. I've got a low U number Rhoads from 1990, and I never know what to call it

Yeah I was thinking mid 90s for the switch over too. I picked up U00030 awhile back on ebay but looking for U00373 for a game I'm playing lol.

That serial # puts this one in 1994, so I really don't know what it would have been called that year. The switch was somewhere near then.

                  I'll just call it awesome.

                  Can I call second dibs?

Just found this 94-95 catalog: http://support.jacksonguitars.com/ca...95_catalog.pdf

On page 21 it lists holoflake as a paint option on the Rhoads custom, which is the only USA Rhoads shown, on page 18.

So, it looks like Chris is right, Rhoads custom.

For your 1990, the catalog calls these USA series, so I would just call it USA Rhoads:

Interestingly, the above link gives the only 3 differences between a "USA series" (later called Select) and a Custom Shop. (useful info for that other thread).

By 1994, the cat was still calling them U.S.A. series, so if the OP's guitar was not holoflake it'd be U.S.A. Rhoads.

I'd say the Letter letter number designation would start in the 1995-96 era.

That chair's been through some time and photo shoots... Never get rid of it. If for some reason you end up wanting to throw it away, leave it in your garage and take it out when you get a new guitar.

I usually call it that, but mine has a graphic, so would that make it a Rhoads custom, or was that distinction not made in 1990?
