  • NG 1985 San Dimas Student Soloist

Traded a Blacktop MIM Strat for this locally. My first San Dimas Jackson. It's in decent shape for its age and although I swore off Kahlers, I couldn't pass on this one. It has the capped headstock with the waterslide decal under the clear coat. No logo Gotoh tuners also. The Kahler has been blocked with one of the old blocks that Dave stopped making so now it's fixed but with functional fine tuners. I was thinking about removing the finish off the back of the neck since I've never had a neck-through with an oiled neck. I don't think there is much value to this to take away from plus it could use a refin anyway. On with the pics.

Nice score! I would not have thought twice about trading a strat for that lol.

Really. Guy must have been on serious crack to trade a USA Jackson for a MIM Strat

        Nice score.

And don't be so sure there's no value there to be lost by stripping the neck. I'm sure you could negotiate a trade to someone for one that's already been stripped, and probably with a Floyd.
It'd probably still have the retard nut on it, but hey.

That looks great - and I agree with Matt. There are very few 2 hum students around, so stripping the paint would likely affect the value. Frankly I'd be interested in the guitar in its current state, but not with a stripped neck.

Sweet guitar, I'd say you made out like a bandit on that trade. I must have read a few threads where people here hate on the Kahler Nut. Personally I don't mind it and I think it's kinda cool.

Yeah you got the better end of that deal. You sure there wasn't a gun involved??

I wasn't aware Dave used to make a part to block Kahlers. I'm intrigued by this!

Even though the pic showing the kahler came first I still freaked out when I saw the back with no trem cavity or ferrules.

I used to block my Kahlers with a wood screw threw the trem arm. As long as it was the right length it worked great.

A no note to stripping the neck from me too. Keep it nice as it is.

It makes me go through keyboards like they are nothing.

Very cool... well, except for the Kahler.

I vote to strip the neck, as oiled necks are sweet!

Great deal on that soloist! I say keep it as is and don't strip the paint off the neck.
