Here's my only remaining DK1. I've only had two, but loved them both! Great guitars.

had a bit of a happy accident with it...the front pick up kept cutting out..took it to a local repair centre to get fixed...they replaced the volume pot , but also wired it so that it now has two volume controls and no tone. As I never use the tone I was pretty happy BUT also wondered how on earth they thought this is the way it's meant to be!!
Oh? And how much did you pay them to fuck that up?
      Fuck ebay, fuck paypal

Enough that I'm not going back to have them do any serious work done!

Lots of snakeskin in here, I'm diggin it. I want to see some lightning sky though!

Edit: Jazzy, for some reason that cobalt blue is one of my favorites, which is odd considering there are so many sweet graphics going around.

I love the color... Not sure I'm totally sold on the guitar. I haven't given it much of a chance, and it's replacing something near & dear to my heart.

So I guess what I'm saying is it's like the new puppy that replaced my 20-year-old dog that got hit by a car, and I'm not sure I don't want to take it to the pound quite yet.

Rough story about the old guitars, I remember that thread I'm sure with a little more playing that DK1 will be the old dog, and if not just send me a PM :ROTF:

Active wiring and installation is expensive on its own and removing all the original pickups and hardware (leaving a useless battery port) would seriously devalue the instrument.

I did decide at one point to go for SD Blackouts (and keep all the wiring) until i found out the pickups have different pin sockets and cannot be hot swapped.
Since i really want a set of blackouts id have to re-wire an instrument anyway, and id rather that was not a DK1 since they are heavier and not as accessible as an SL2H or WR1 for eg
I want to love this guitar but its just not for me, so its on the bay where i hope someone who loves EMGs finds it.
I wouldn't have thought that a pickup swap would seriously devalue the guitar. It's not like a DK1 is particularly collectible, especially a recent one. I don't think a pickup swap would have any effect on the value of the guitar if you then went to sell it. And you may open yourself up to another segment market - those who would love a DK1 but don't like EMGs

If you like everything else about the guitar and would play more if you enjoyed the tone of it, then I think a pickup swap is fully justified. When I got my US Fusion, I loved playing the thing. Beautiful guitar to play, but I'd only used it unplugged on my lounge because I hated the EMG in the bridge. Swapped the pickups for a Dimarzio TZ/Evo set and I've never been happier with it. Now it plays great AND sounds great

Sucks about the battery box though. But that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.. I have guitars with allen key holders on back of the headstock. I don't use them, but it doesn't stop me playing the guitar

That's technically not a DK1. The older, 22-fret DK1s were H/S/S and the newer ones are 24 frets H/H. I believe yours would be some kind of Custom Dinky since it's 24 frets and H/S/S. Beautiful guitar either way.

What's up with the 'Jackson (R)' and also 'Made in the USA'? I was always under the assumption they were different things. I remember seeing a link somewhere about how the logo has evolved but never bookmarked it.

Regardless this thread is sweet, I really want that $1500 cobalt blue dinky on ebay from beatstreet.

this link gives some explanation of the logo evolution:

i assume its pretty well right as its well documented

there is a production model called the Dinky Custom in the '93 catalogue. I seem to recall a Dinky 24 from the early 90s too. Less common but still a production model
