Here's the story. Saw it on Ebay, was interested but was buying an ESP Lynch guitar but continued to watch it. I took a stab at the very end but didn't get it, winning bid was 877 plus 30 shipping or 907 which is still a great price. The buyer was a deadbeat, the music store in Mass gave me a 2nd chance offer I responded I will take it for 850 out the door and they are like OK calls us....done deal.

Now, I will return the GL because it needs a major setup and I save 150 bucks in the process.

Happy ending! Now this will go very nicely with my trans green SL2H with reverse headstock...like bookends. HAHAHA!!!

What do you mean? The 81 is in the bridge, 85 is in the neck...why would I swap them?

Better yet, swap those EMGs for Duncan Blackouts, and have active pickups with actual tone. You don't even have to open up the control cavity to do the swap.

Do they really sound that good? I am not fond of EMG's. When i was a kid, i really wanted them cause all the guys i listened to had em' from Zakk Wylde to Kirk Hammett, even the guys from Rammstein. I got my first set when i turned 14 and they were fine, but when i grew a little older and my taste in music varied, i found that they were useless. Unless you play with a ton of gain, they are completely lifeless. Now i also don't like Seymours, but only because I've tried a lot of their passive models. Are the blackouts really that much better than the Emgs ?

Oh yeah, they're better. They still sound like active pickups, but without the transistor-ish harshness of the EMGs. I prefer to use the Blackout neck version in both slots, which is equivalent to using an EMG-85 in the bridge; that's what I have in the bridge of my '85 Soloist, and it sounds fantastic. The Blackout bridge version is better than the EMG-81, but it is also ridiculously high output and lacks dynamics to a certain degree (sounds good in Les Pauls, though).

They're not for everyone, though. Still probably too 'sterile' for lower gain applications.

A lot of people put the 85 in the bridge and the 81 in the neck. I know I prefer them that way, too.

I think you got a good deal mainly because the headstock looks like it's delaminating.
