  • Jackson Stars Custom (picstory - absolutely NO dialup!)

I've owned a Jackson for a long time and only joined the JCF to ask for opinions about the Christian Olde Wolbers signature model. But, oh no, I couldn't just nip in and out after asking an innocent question, you feckers had to go give me GAS and the knowledge of how to use it. This is a product of the JCF and one that wouldn't have happened without it. Thanks everyone.

I'll forgive you that it cost three times the cost of what I originally planned to buy.

First for the (financial) pain: duty, VAT and clearance charges:

    Here's the target:

We'll be needing tools for this:

    That's just not right. Better:

But not quite right. Something's missing:

    Just one more thing. Perfect

    Now, down to business

Crazy good packing, with several layers of bubble wrap within the box:

The case is sweet, lets hope the guitar is

    We'll soon know:

Wow, I can't believe how accurately the CS shop got my space age request, right down to its new-edge whammy:

It sounds SO sweet through my VOX:

Okay, okay, so this is what the case really contains:

    So what could that be?

    What's wrong with these pictures?

Daylight was fading by the time I got home, so I don't have any really decent shots. However, just so I don't fall foul of Ron, here's a full body-shot:

    SHAPE : Kelly, 7-string
BODY : Alder with Quilt Maple Veneer
    COLOUR: Transparent Black Sunburst
    NECK : Maple Thru-Neck
FINGERBOARD : Bound Ebony with Reverse Mother of Pearl Sharkfin Inlays
HEADSTOCK : Quilt Veneer (matching body) with Mother of Pearl Jackson Stars inlay
    BRIDGE : Tunamatic.Strings Thru-Body
PICKUPS : Seymour Duncan Jazz SH-2-7(Front) Seymour Duncan Custom TB-5-7 (Rear)

First impressions is that the quality is every bit as good as my two USA select guitars: fan-bloody-tastic.The wide neck is going to take some getting use to though.

Now what the hell am I going to do with the seventh string?

Awesome. Looks like it being a 7 string doesn't even affect the looks at all on the Kelly body... on some bodies adding the 7th just looks weird.

    Sweeeet.

:ROTF: Great walk thru! Glad it got to you safe, what a nice Kelly!

!! Don't they have extended sharkies for 7-string fingerboards? Looks like they don't!

Lol at the first few pics. That is awesome. My fav body shape with fav finish (and black hardware) with 7 strings. I'm drooling already.
I feel festive all year round. Deal with it.

              Congratulations!
              Wow, what a quilt...

And a great pic story! Though Ron will jump your ass anyways because in your full shot picture there's still a tiny piece of the horn cut off.

                Thanks everyone.

Hey Henrik, yep, it finally got here. Actually, it got to Ireland in about four days, but the national post service had a hissy-fit because its value was over their customs limit; a paltry 650 Euro. My SO sorted out the customs clearance and I drove sixty miles to collect it from Customs instead of waiting for An Post to deliever it. I blew a half-day off work to collect it, but, oh-well, I've been waiting six months.

The US CS 7-string sharkies I've seen were also 6-string sized. I'll check they're no bigger than normal on Saturday. My Jacksons are hidden away while my two year old nephew is visiting. He's a cool little guy, but far too interested in guitars!

That original post would have been outrageously longer, but you're only allowed have 20 pictures in a post.

                Here's some more:

Thanks for the warning Shadowcat, here's one for Ron:

What, no one wants more pics of the blue one?

I'll post a review at a later date, with some outdoor pictures. I have to say, I'm delighted with the quilt and the colour. I was concerned it would be too dark, but it turned out great.

Cheers everyone, I'm off to bed. I'll be dreaming of seven strings chords... and growing an extra finger to play them.
