    SSSSWWEEETT!

For those keeping score @ home, I grabbed this last week off E-bay- first time I've used ebay, went just fine.

Showed up at work. I work in a fairly staid environment, so when I rooted through this huge box, with friggin' foam peanuts flying everywhere, well, it was a bit of a scene.

    So here she is!

Now that I have it appears to be a black metallic flake rather than flat black, which is kinda sweet.

EMG's....gold lettering. Anyone have any idea what set it might be? Sound nice, appreciate the lows it seems to be kicking vs. the JB in my Soloist:

Now....for the bad part. The real bad part, I think. Someone removed the Schaller 590 and replaced it...with this:

W.T.F. It's a "TRS 101", which from the little bit of research I did is some sort of lower-quality Ibanez trem, the one they put on mid level imports that don't rate an EDGE. But wait!!! It gets WORSE!

    (que Homer Simpson screaming sound)

Lower left hand side- See that wad of tissue? I put that there because I blew it on string selection- They really felt like 9's to me but must have been 10s, so when I put the 9's on obviously I'm not floating. Figured, big deal we're ok. BUT WAIT!!! The trem plate is SLOPPING OVER in the cavity! There was a little cracking in the finish from where someone was pulling up on the trem arm and slapped wood.

WHO WOULD DO SUCH A THING??? WHYYY DO YOU DO THIS TO MY PEOPLE?????

    OK. Sorry.

So here's the question: WHAT Schaller trem best replaces what's on there now, and HOW much of a disaster will it be to retrofit this baby back to her original form? I haven't been able to find 590's...is there a new model that fits?

The good news: My word, does she feel and sound nice, even with the trem like that. Best $365 I've spent in a long long time. Very fine edge on the sound. Stronger lows than the USA Soloist. Kinda sounds pissed, probably from the way it was treated.

Only thing I can say is it will be treated better here than where it came from!

So that's it! What say you brothers?

Gold EMGs = 85, SA, SA

I have EMGs in my black Fusion PRO also.

Buy a Schaller Floyd to replace that hunk of scrap metal.
The JT-590 and the Schaller Floyd are the exact same trem.
      Just a different logo.
Gonna run you close to $200 for a new one, but well worth it.

that'll happen, man. It's because of the short scale. I always run strings one gauge higher on my Fusions than I would on my other guitars. So if you're used to 9s on a 25 1/2" scale guitar, pop 10s on it and it should feel about the same tension.

Anyway, congrats on the score. Looks like she's lead a hard life, but it sounds like she's got a good home now.
          Hail yesterday

            TRS-101?

Isn't it the Takeuchi TRS-101 trem they had on Pre2006 MIJ Soloists?
Jackson Stars xx-j3/j4 (the cheapest ones) come with them (j2 has a Schaller trem while a j1 has an OFR)...

Only way to find out if it's a Takeuchi TRS-101 is to pull it and see if it's stamped on the spring block.
As for the pre 2006 SL3's, some JT580LP's were made by Takeuchi and some weren't. But they were most definitely not the cheaper TRS-101.
Regardless, it wasn't designed to fit in that route.

A nice guitar like that deserves a real schaller trem.

That's an Ibanez trem. The Takeuchi trems Jackson used (JT580 and JT580LP) never had TRS-101 stamped on it.

Back in the original thread, (eFraid?) I pointed out that was NOT the Schaller trem and that it was something else, so you should have read that!!!

Ibanez TRS Trems had "Ibanez" stamped on ! It's a Takeuchi TST-101 and it looks exactly like my Takeuchi JT-580 (Fusion SX) only that mine has "Jackson" stamped on it. And of course "Jackson didn't use it", but obviously someone else did ! Nice guitar anyway !!!
What about the third knob ? Shouldn't it be a switch ? As on RacerX's one ?

Well, the active electronics that came with it were swapped for an EMG 85 & 2 SA's. One thing I've noticed lately is that the friggin' tone knobs don't seem to do much of anything (typical me- It took months to notice this, can you see how much I mess with them?) I may open her up and see how things are wired & see if I can figure out what's up.

FWIW I have the JT-590 on there now.... it's off a Charvel & is stamped as such, which makes me smile every time I see it, for some reason...she looks so much better. I'll get some pics up hopefully this weekend.

Funny to see this thread resurrected! I'm sure everyone's tired of my Fusion Journey of Restoration at this point.

OH- and FWIW, the sustain block on the TKS-101 is stamped Takeuchi. It is now sitting in a drawer.

Fuck it. Sell it on ebay. You'll probably never use it.
