  • Introducing "Franken-Dinky!"

    Hi all,
Another project comes to an end for me. It all started out with an older PS-4 body with a bunch of cracks in it. Add to it a PS-2 neck and some parts and I had a PS-2/4. Well I decided to take it one step further when I found this body on eBay. I got it for around 50 bucks and my new project started:

Add to it the parts I salvaged from my older project PS-2/4 and:

Now, it's done. Only I added EMG's instead of the Duncan Designed I had been using. But, this time I tried the opposite combo. 85 in the bridge and 81 in the neck. I've heard here that some like the 85 better in the bridge. Here it is:

And finally, here it is, with it's cousin, my RR3. It seems that lately I've been going for that black and chrome look. This is my fourth one now. I also have a single p/u all black (body & pickguard) Fender strat, and an Epi LP all black & chromed out too.

It plays great and really screams with the 85 in the bridge.

BLACK GUITARS ARE TAKING ME OVER!!!!!!!!

Nice work... is that a JS-30 body?

I did a PS-2/JDR-94 parts mutt a few months back.
Did you have to dress the fret ends on the PS-2 neck?
The frets on mine had teeth.

Hi all, thanks for the comments......It's pretty cool. I'm having fun trying it out. Can't put it down.

As for the body, yes I believe it's from a JS30. The neck I got used but the frets were fine. No trouble with fret ends. I know what you mean though. I had a guitar once that sliced the inside of my thumb once from the "teeth."

Projects are fun. Sometimes you can get the parts so cheap. The best part is that so far all the pieces have fit together with no mods. At least if the necks and bodies are made in the same place, they usuually fit together. Man, curse this eBay........where else would we have access to all these parts.

Does it intonate properly? I thought the JS30 was a 22-fretter

You're right. I had been looking at a photo of the JS30DKT which is the string-through model and has a 24 fret neck. I just assumed the Floyd model JS30DK was the same, but it only has a 22 fret neck. Why that is, I don't know. The body I have I think must be from an X series Dinky (DX10???) Looking at the body I used, it definitely had a 24 fret neck. See the smaller space between the bridge and neck humbuckers. The intonation was almost perfect, I just had to make a few minor adjustments.
