  • DK2 floyde rose tuning stability

    hey all

i just bought a Dk2 in a sunburst finish. i love the guitar but the tuning on the floyd rose seems to go out quickly.

would installing a 4th spring help?

    any other tips?

    Cheers

What are you tuned to?...E standard? What string gauge?

Are your strings stretched enough before locking the nut? All an extra spring would do is put more tension on the trem and give it a stiffer feel; you'd have to exert more pressure to push the bar down.

        *cough* Tremsetter *cough*

I just installed one on my DXMG because the trem never returned to zero and now it works like a charm! Kinda expensive but cheaper than replacing it with an OFR and there are a lot of other added benefits as well.

The JT580LP trem can be quirky at times. Some, I guess, take a lot of tweaking to get the balance right between the string tension and the springs. Is the tuning going sharp or flat? Also, a drop of 3-In-One Oil on the post helped mine a bunch.

Hmm, I never had a problem with any JT580LP staying in tune.

i'm using 9s, the trem is parrel with the body and i have abused the hell out of the strings, when the strings go out of tune they allways go flat, oh and i allways lock the nut :P

any tips on keeping it in tune? like oiling in certen places or something??

Doesn't matter if you always lock the nut. Are you stretching your strings enough before you lock it? If not, you will go out of tune since your strings aren't properly stretched.
When you put on new strings, tune up to pitch, do a lot of bending and also pull the strings up off the board to pull them out of tune, retune, repeat the stretching process until they don't go out of tune, then lock the nut.

My DX10D goes flat if I whammy, but if I slightly pull up on the arm it will go back to zero and be in tune again. If you figure it out, let me know.
