One thing most people don't understand is that paint is always drying, as in drying out, using the proper polish puts oils back into the paint and protects it from drying out.
When paint gets like that it cracks or looks dull, there is nothing wrong with using a proper wax/ polish on a guitar finish,you just don't need to use it all the time as you can get buildup, you are actually saving the finish with proper care not ruining it or the wood below
