  • NGD² - JDR94 and DK2-mutt

    Hi,

I got some new toys today ^^ , an old JDR94 for just a few bucks and my own build of a PC1

The JDR94 was on ebay and since I like reverse headstocks and black Dinkys I just bought it for little money. The guitar plays very nice, frets are in good condition even for a guitar tht old. The PUs got swapped for two Duncan Distortion and a dummy in single-coil position. I installed a megaswitch like the prs-ones, too. That thing gives you some nice sound in positions 2,3 and 4. The other guitar is a DK2-body with Duncan Hotrails and Dimarzio Super3, Floyd Rose with brass block and a very nice flame-maple-neck made by musikraft. One of the best sounding guitars I've ever had for just about 800€. I just wasn't sure if I would like the fat neck of the PC1 so I got me a neck that suits me fine.

    Volume-pot was moved to tone-position and on vol-pos a kill-switch was installed.

    Here are some pics:

    and the DK2-PC1

I just googled the word mutt. I touhgt it'd described some kind of cheap guitar build with spare parts as some guys use that word in their topics Now I know better

      Mutt, partscaster, Frankenstrat
While they are all mean the same thing, they all have their own unique qualities.

Mutt - unmatched body and neck
but doesn't necessarily mean cheap stuff.

It is really the dictionary definition of the word mutt but applied to guitars instead of animals.

        That DK2 looks sweet.
The pickup swap in the '94 is a big upgrade from the originals in my opinion.
        96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

The DK2 plays good, too. I ordered a speed profile @ musikraft and it came with a profile a little bit fatter than my SL1. The quality was perfect. It plays and feels very good. As I already posted in the tech thread that guitar resonates much better than all my other guitars. I don't know why, but it is just like that. My DK1 sounds a little bit dead, the DK2 has a lot of bite and growls. I thought it maybe comes from the copper trem block on the DK1 (the DK2 has a brass block) but that guitar sounds huge. If I hit the trembar the trem wiggles much longer than all other guitars.

The JDR94 is nice, too. The neck is really thin and sound sgood with the Duncan Distortion-Set.

Looking good. I have a PC1 and a JDR94 and both are keepers! Good job with the neck on the DK2.
