Difference in neck quality

For the older MIJ Jacksons...or Charvels for that matter, is there a difference in quality of a dot inlay neck compared with one with shark fins and binding? Or is the difference just cosmetic preference?

No difference as long as you are talking the same like of guitars.

i.e. a Performer dot inlay isn't going to be the same as a DK1 neck.

yea, what Don said. I have Model necks with dots & sharks. No quality difference. As long as you're comparing necks within a product line - I haven't seen a Performer neck with rosewood like the old Models or even the Professionals from around the same time.
