  • Surfcaster SC4 Origin

    Hi folks

I'm looking for some information and opinions on the Surfcaster SC4. I am watching 2 auctions on ebay in the UK and before I actually decide to go for one of these things I thought I would check out a few things.

As far as I can tell the guitars are the ones shown in these catalogs:

    (Thanks Henrik!)

    1. are these made in India or Japan? A search on here suggested that they are junk from the beginning of the original Indian built Jackson lines but one of the auctions says it'S Japanese and I know the Jap factory was making solid body Surfcasters for the Japanese market
    2. are they any good?

Yeah, I know it's not a real Surfcaster, that's not going to happen any time soon, but if these are not "junk" then I might pick one up for a laugh.

Thanks for any help on offer.

I don't think they were MII but I'm not an expert on them by any means. I believe the lowest line was the only made in India and everything else was MIJ.
    It's pronounced soops

Well, they are definitely both solid bodies from the "later" models. One is a red with a flame maple photo/veneer and the other is a surf green one.

The red one I think has a serial staring "01" which makes me think it is Indian.

I can't see the serial number on the green one, so I asked!

        Thanks for the suggestion RacerX!

          Okay, so the news is:

red one - 01051856 : pretty certain this is Indian, actually reading the "Import Serial Number / Country of Origin" thread which took me
green one - 00040606 : quite certain this is Japanese.

Anyone got some confirmation for me?

EDIT: I finally found the thread!

Looks like they are both Indian

              Thanks for the confirmation.
Should have picked up one of the hard tails 2 years ago when people in Europe were off loading theirs for some reason
