  • buying my second DK2M Skully!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to say i really in love with my Japanese DK2 skull graphic dinky that i am buying another. There was one listed locally for 450$, i got him to let me have it for 340$. It's gonna need a nice set up, but i am stoked. I really enjoyed my other one. The neck is comfterble, the duncan design pick-ups are underrated and much better than the sh-4 pick-up the new ones have imo. I really wanted a second one so i can keep the one i have now in Eb and the other one in standard E.

Il be posting pictures as soon as i get it!

    EDIT: i meant DK2 lol

I wasn't aware Jackson did a DK2M with graphic, only the DK2 (with rosewood board).
    Fuck ebay, fuck paypal

I agree the Duncan Design pickups are underrated but better than a JB?
      Each to their own.

i don't like Duncans. In all the guitars i've put them in they failed to provide the output i wanted, react awkwardly to medium gain and just have less dynamics than the majority of other after markets. I think seymours are overrated. They are not horrible, but i've had a ton of pro series in the past, i am just now starting to buy more, but these are from early 2000 and sport a vast amount of difference to their newer counter parts and i find the duncan design humbucker to be superior. It's not the first time i heard this. I thought i was crazy at first, but hey good things come at all prices. Same way the early squier bullets were superior to their american brethren of the time, i feel this is the same situation. Not for all seymours, but the ones that come stock in the jacksons have been garbage for me anyways. I had a box full of Jb's and Tb's etc

You must have received the freak best Duncan Designed and the worst branded SD ever made. Coincidence? I 've never heard a DD stand up to a branded SD.
My Duncan Designed pickups are way better than Seymour Duncan regular pickups you fanboy.

Yeah...too bad the forum doesn't have a minimum IQ.

That's because you like seymours. I don't, so right away i pick up on these things. I thought if they weren't even real Duncans, than they were going to suck more, but they sound better. Maybe not for everyone, but through my rig it's right up there with my main Ibby, my dimarziod fenders and etc

It's personal preference, but i know my opinion won't be popular on a jackson website, you guys are SD fanboys . I tried to like them. I remember how happy i was when i got my first guitar with real Seymours. To me it was like having a fast car with racing rims, but i was dissapointed. I thought it was because i played more heavy metal, as my preferences changed, my distaste for seymours grew. Not in that one guitar, a couple of jacksons, a Bc rich with a live wire and a couple of other guitars that were rewired in that i had to swap out again. So i just don't care for them and i am happy that i liked the duncan designs, less money to waste.

            Now update!

He called me to say he forgot he swapped the bridge with a TB-6. So i told him he could keep, but i wasn't going to pay the original price for it either. He kept trying to sell it to me, but i didn't want it. Then he tried to sell me a dimarzio made pick up from his dean guitar, i don't want a dimarzio specially designed for a dean either. So i got the guitar for 300$.

I had a lot of work to do on this one, the fretboard was dirty. It's not in as good a condition of my other one, but i don't wish to hang it as a trophy, i want to play it and it's a perfect condition for just that. I have already wired in a nice early 80's paf pro in the bridge and i cleaned the fretboard thoroughly. So steel wool and finished with a small dab of linseed oil spread across.

Here are some pictures of it resting until all the linseed excess rises from the board.

How do those DK2's play? I'm looking for a replacement for my old Charvel M1 and the neck seems to be close.

I've got a chance to get a nice trans blue one for a good price; I'm seriously considering it.

              Congrats!

coming from a guy who plays mostly high end makes and a lot of late 80's ibanez from Jems to good Rg's, i think this guitar puts a new spin on price/quality ratio. I never expected it to play this good. I've owned other pro series before a KE3 kelly and an alpine white DK2M. Sweet guitars, but i have taken a shinning to these 2001+ models. Have a nice neck, can come in a variety of colors and finishes which is cool and if you like Seymour duncans, they come with a nice set. That's a lot more than the other companies dish out at this price range. Take a look into it, it's a worthy investment. They have good re sale if you get a good price used. I've been offered 500-600 for these ones and i paid almost half that.

They do seem hard to beat, and the neck feels like home. I may just have to jump on that one...thanks.

Here they are. I am almost done with it. I left my gear at my buddies house until we finish up jamming for tomorrow so imma have to finalize the install then. I lowered the springs and tomorrow i am going to adjust the truss rod a tad bit and then get to the long laborious process of intonation and then finish the job. Il let the strings stretch for tonight. anyways here are the twins. Notice how different the two fretboards are. The one i got recently is a lot lighter than the other. This one feels like real rosewood, where as the first one i had looked dark enough to be ebony! These paintjobs are hand painted and it is easy to tell, these are both unique and have a lot of differences.

Well...I 'like' SD. Yes. A 'fanboy' of them? I wouldn't say so. I'm more of a Lindy Fralin, Lollar, WCR, BG Pups fan. Seymours beat the crap out of Dimarzios IMO but they aren't in my top 5.

One amusing thing that I noted: to call oneself someone 'who plays mostly high end' does not add any value to one's opinion.

Who cares what you note . How would my opinion matter more than it does, which it shouldn't unless everyone here is brainless, if i just had experience with entry level guitars. How would i know what seymours sound like through a USA if i've only ever played a JS series with jackson made pick-ups. You can like what you want. I like DiMarzios because i get what i need from them. I like playing 80's metal, classic rock, progressive and hair metal, the Paf Pro was made for that . I don't need it to be high output. Run along now

Ooooo...I've never heard any internet tough guy say that before.

I guess your 'mudslinging' isn't high end (even though you obviously think that it is).

yeaaaaaaaah... okay than let's do it...I'll play the tough guy and you play the self absorbed pseudo intellect, who has ,as far as he knows, a witty answer for everything. Now prophecize for me puppet! Mwahaha. Seriously all i said is i don't like seymours. I didn't state it like that, it took me a while to form an honest answer. Until i find a Seymour duncan i like, i will continue disliking them. You want to cry about it? Go right ahead. Maybe you should write Seymour a nice thoughtful email about it and tell them we're wasting our time taking cheap shots at each other over stupidities. What matters is i assume we both like Jackson guitars. I'm just embarking on my Jackson addiction. I've bought three in the last two months and i plan a USA in the next few months. I am happy about that, what i am not happy is that i will most likely have to swap out the pick-ups . Give me your zip and I'll send em' all your way. You can pet them softly and give them names for all care, i just don't need them.

                            Enough said about this.

^^^^^ +1, very nicely written, I like SDs, but then I like Randall ss amps too(think they even sound better than most tube amps)(sound of pandoras box opening on that one) Is the rosewood lighter on the one guitar or is that just the pic??
