  • Model 2 repair: what nut is needed?

Snagged a Model 2 off Ebay the other week. I didn't realise that previous owner had removed the nut.

Is there any chance I can restore it with the original nut? It's got a kahler bridge, so I am imagining maybe not... :|

Any other options ? I am mainly asking because the treble "e" string position feels "wrong".

    Thanks.

    (Should this go in "Tech?")

    You need one of these...

    It's a Kahler behind-the-nut lock nut.

Dave at http://www.fretsonthenet.com used to carry them, but I see he is out of stock right now.

Stray, you think the nut on at the moment is how the guitar was sold?

              I wasn't sure.

If you plan on keeping this guitar, you might want to look into having a Kahler Killer 2700 Series installed and have a shelf made for a locking nut. Then you'd have a double locking system removing "stay in tune" issues. The Killer is made out a very heavy chunck of steel as well, improving tone.

I'll keep it stock for a while...I changed the humbucker to a JB...both that and the stock pickup sound awesome...I'm trying to decide which to keep in there...the stock one is screamin'.

Anyway, can anyone help: Did the model 2 ever come with this type of nut stock?

The model 2 came with the plastic nut that you have pictured with the stringlock that rj has shown mounted behind it. It will mount right up to the holes that are there and cover those scratches. The trussrod cover was a short one that sticks under the stringlock on the bottom and uses one screw at the top. It will all cover up that mess and look fine.

Heres a pic of what it will look like. Your lock will probably not be chrome or as dusty .
