  • Stripping a model 2?

So, when I was in the process of stripping my Model 3, I found that there were a black layer of something under the paint and base coat. What is this? Seemed really tough to sand through, even with a machine... I've been wanting to finish my Model 2 with Tung Oil, and was just wondering how it looks under this black stuff? Is it basswood, or what?

    Thanks!

It could be some kind of sealer. Yes, the Model 2 will be made from basswood.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too... But weird that they would only apply sealer to the front?
Ok, so atleast it's not some form of laminate

        Basswood looks like shit raw.
It's also pretty soft, the paint actually protects it from getting dinged up.
That's why there were so many layers for you to sand off.
