• Model 3 nut

i have a Charvel Model3 i bought in 1988. i need to replace the nut. when i got it ,it came with a locking nut 'behind' the nut. can i still get these? if not, does anyone know the specs so i can replace the nut?
also, this kind of bothers me. when i got this guitar it had a Jackson whammy. over time it had worn out and i replaced it. it had narrower string spacing than the floyd's or any others. is it possible to get a whammy in different string spacings?

So do you need the actual nut, or the string lock that was installed "after the nut."?

As far as the spacing with the JT-6, I believe that was standard spacing. Where as most Floyds have what is known as "F-spacing" which is just a touch wider. The JT6 was the only Floyd type trem I know of that had standard spacing, but there might be more out there.

you can get the "behind the nut locker" from Kahler. it has allen heads instead of flat heads. and is a direct replacement.

<font color="aqua">John, have you ever put a Kahler stringlock on a guitar that had a JT6 lock on there? I have, and when I did, the mounting holes do not line up. Possibly Kahler or the manufacturer of the JT6 stringlock changed the screw pattern at one point?

yes, and it lined up perfectly. it looked just like the jt-6 locker but had flat top heads with small allen holes to lock it down.

i have seen the kahler ones that have flip down clamps but have never tried to put them on a model 3.

<font color="aqua">Thanks John, I must say that's really weird though as I have yet to see the JT6 match up exactly with a Kahler. As for the allparts stringlock you showed, yes, that has the same screw pattern as the Kahler (or in Johns case, his JT6 stringlock as well... ). </font>

you know what. i think it might have had a slight issue with the truss rod cover. i think i had to cut off the tab on the end or replace it with a standard triangular shaped one. (but then again that might have been another project, i can't remember)
