  • Truss rod issue on model 3

Hey guys, just recently picked up an old Charvel model 3 in really decent condition however when I’ve gone to adjust truss rod to get neck a little straighter it seems to be compressing against the wood ! It seems to be working ok and it does get neck a little straighter but the further I tighten it just keeps squishing further into the cavity, seems like there is nothing for it to bare off!
I do have another model 3 to reference it against and it seems to have a washer that is baring off a bit of metal but this one has no washer or metal for it to bare off it seems. If I get a washer for the nut to bare off the nut hasn’t got nice square edges for it to sit against as the truss rod cavity on these old Charvel’s has rounded edges where nut sits! What’s missing here?

Here’s a couple of photos for reference. First photo is reference guitar and Second photo is the troublesome one.
I will probably end up taking it to a luthier but thought I’d ask you tech’s and luthiers here or anyone who is knowledgeable and familiar with these guitars truss rod setup. Will the washer be ok even though wall edges are not square or will it continue to compress against wood?

Update: I ended up putting 3 thin brass washers on it and it seems to have worked a treat and straightened it enough. Might need to adjust it a fraction more but I’m going to let that settle for now…
