  • Japanese Charvel San Dimas Bridge Pickup Advice needed

I recently purchased a beautiful Charvel San Dimas (Made in Japan) and the seller took out the Seymour Duncan TB-4 and replaced it with a handmade pickup from a local pickup builder. The sound is great, but since the pickup cavities are so shallow, the pickup sits slightly below the strings. A new Duncan tb-4 will run me $73 and before I make the purchase, I was wondering what other Seymour Duncan pickups will actually fit properly in the cavity and if any JCF members have replaced them with anything else. It's the bridge position and I'd like to stick with a Duncan, preferably one with writing that will match the stock Seymour Duncan '59 SH-1N neck pickup

Find a pick up with short legs that should fix your issue.

Good chance to try a Seymour Duncan RTM! It is a way better JB!

I've always been intrigued by the RTM, could you expand on the word 'better' haha?

I have a Duncan Custom in my MIJ San Dimas - sounds WAY better than a JB! More balanced, less mid hump, slightly lower output - cleans up better.

Thanks for the advice. After a bit of flipflopping back and forth, I've decided to go with the Duncan TB5. Since it has the same dimensions, I think it's the best replacement.

I've used JBs, Customs, Distortions and Dimarzio Super Distortions in my promods. All good choices. Tough to go wrong with any quality pickup

Even the regular JB is quite good. The first Seymour Duncan pickup I used was the JB!
