  • couple of random questions

hey guys, couple of questions that i have always wondered about but can't seem to pin down. maybe you can help me out.

40 cents on a tuner, what does that mean, how can i tune to "D plus 40cents....." this is something i recall reading in a dimebag interview.

next one relates to tuning. once i've gotten the guitar tuned up, sometimes i let it sit for a while and i come back and sometimes, not always, some strings go sharp, that just seems wierd to me. what's up with that.

    anyway, thanks guys.

You'd need a tuner that is accurate down to cents like a Peterson strobe to do a D plus 40.

Necks are made of wood and wood expands and contracts with changes in humidity. If the neck shrinks, the strings go flat. If it expands, they go sharp.

High quality necks like quarter sawn maple resist this change better.
