  • PUP change in electric blue Model 2

I have the stock jackson PUP there but I am thinking of going a Demarzio SD or Duncan Distortion? Any experience with these two in the model 2? Also, I think I am going either cream/cream with cream surround or zebra with cream surround. Open to all ideas sound and appearance.

    thanks!

I had a SD distortion trembucker in my M1 for years and it was killer. The M1 was modded for a schaller FR. Sounded awesome in that guitar. I doubt you could go wrong with either choice.

I have a pair of zebra pups with creme rings on a candy blue promod and I think they look cool. I would have liked all creme but apparently SD doesn't make them and Dimarzios weren't an option from the builder.

Is the stock Jackson pickup a covered pickup with an oversized pickup ring? A regular ring won't work and a regular pickup in an oversized ring leaves a big ugly gap.

If so, you'd better get with Dave on fretsonthenet.com to get a custom made pickup ring.

More than likely yes. If you pull it you can look at the backside, there should be a sticker. A J90C is a similar to a Super D, DD, 15.93K, ceramic magnet.

Thanks, I will keep the original j90c, I just want to have a double cream or zebra in there for that "old school" look. I think I will go with Duncan.

So Dave does not make cream PUP rings? Are there any out there that will fit a model series?

I know of none that make an over sized ring in creme.
If you don't mind the gap use the stock ring.
I would keep the J90C in there myself its a killer pick up.
I have an old model 2 that has an old 70's DiMarzio super D in it and its deff bad ass.J90C is almost as good to be honest.

I have two Mod #2s, I will keep the blue one stock, but the red one needs a new PUP. It's got a dimarzio (sp) that has no poles on the top? Don't know what it is, but it's REALLY Hot. the PUP ring is cracked so perhaps a zebra would work there. I what something has has a lot of presences and harmonics.

A couple of weeks ago I put a Dimarzio Super3 in my Model 2 and it sounds exactly like the stock Pickup on steroids. Has move volume, bite and growl... i love it. The stock pickup is awesome for a stock pickup but the Super3 was a nice improvement.

I have the same guitar in the same color. I currently have an EMG 81 in there and it sounds killer. I used to have a Dimarzio Super Distortion in it too and it also sounded great (I used it with a 1 meg ohm pot.)

As for the pickup ring, I actually had 'Frets on the Net' make me a custom ring that's angled on the top like Gibson Les Paul rings so that the pickup surface stays parallel with the strings. Really made a BIG difference.
