Charvel 275 Project

Hi new to this Forum. I just brought an old Charvel 275 body from ebay. I got a few other parts like the neck plate and switches. It's the 3 single pickup model with 2 angled together at the bridge. I will restore this guitar but with a few changes from the factory set up.

Neck, Musikraft custom flamed maple 24 fret.
Floyd Rose Speed Loader tremolo.
Lace sensor pickups

Look forward to seeing that come together. I have the 275's step-sister the Charvel Avenger (Rhoads shape with same pickup setup).

I no the 275 is the lower spec guitar in the range but the body is a nice shape and the wood is alder. I had the speedloader and pickups as spares so I thought I would put this one together. The neck will not be the pointy design but the original Charvel strat neck, less the tuner holes.

Ok, that will be interesting, the ebay seller stated it was Alder, I have a Basswood guitar will be interesting tone wise to see what its like.

You might want to rethink that 24 fret neck since the 275 came with a 22 fret neck.
Be a real bitch to intonate.

This is what I like to here, the guy who sold the body had the neck on ebay as a 24fret neck. I wasn't interested in the neck because of the speedloader trem. I am waiting for the body to arrive to take some measurements and then Scotty at Musikraft will sort the neck out.

What are you gonna do when they stop making the Speedloader strings? Or they become prohibitively expensive because not enough people are using them?

I know they seem all cool and stuff, but I'd consider an OFR that can use any strings by any manufacturer. What if Floyd decides to sub out the Speedloader strings to Indonesia and you start getting crappy strings? You will be stuck with them, or have to convert your guitar. That'd end up being one expensive 275 project!

Regarding the neck, they should be able to convert to a 24-fret neck, knowing ahead of time. Might have to change the scale to do it though, like go to 24.75". You also might want to look at his old auction for the neck. If he did have a 24-fret neck, then it might be a Fusion body instead of a 275. I think they both have the H/S config and people don't always know what they've got. If that's the case you will definitely need a 24.75" 24-fret neck to intonate properly. I'd find out before you have the custom neck made.

Yeah, looks like 3 sets for $35 is the cheapest price for anyone that actually has them in stock, and half of their sets are backordered too. But I understand, it'll be a conversation piece. I guess I just don't find the regular Floyd to be that much of a PITA to restring, plus I am a cheapskate and will never take the costly approach when I can get the same results cheaply!

I heard you can put a short scale 24 fret neck on a full scale body that had a 22 fret neck, but don't quote me on that.

No it is not that body very close but the lower horn is different, must be a 24fret Fusion.

Looking at the catalog I would say the body is the page 19, Fusion Special with the cutaways and the 3 single coil config.
