Interesting. Presumably Dave modded his original Kossoff strat himself, without being an "expert" on what he was doing. Hence the non-trem spaced pickups and leaving the 250K pots in place (I'm thinking a tech would have put 500s in for a guitar with 2 humbuckers).
It's cool to think Dave did it himself and created such an iconic guitar.

If it was done today, sure a tech would have done it... but in 1970 whatever, they probably didn't even know the difference - and to the ear, its not that big a deal. Anyway, there were no 'trem spaced" hummers back then anyway.

+1 - no trem spaced buckers back then, so if you put in F-spaced buckers it wouldn't be "correct"
I've bought my MIM strat and I'm on a quest to build my own Dave Murray strat. Just need the pickguard and pickups. If it turns into a keeper I might have it refretted with SS super jumbo frets, and maybe reshape the neck and fretboard radius.

Me too. I had a Super Distortion I tried selling on ebay three times but couldn't get the money I wanted for it so thought I'd try making something like Dave's strat with a dirt cheap Squier. Just waiting on a PAF arriving from the US and I'm nearly done.
