• Pick-ups! Again!

I need some serious advice here. Let's say I've got a les paul-ish guitar (mahogany body, with some maple in the neck and an ebony fretboard).

    The set-up is H/S

I do not want EMG's, they respond to woods, but they do smother up your natural tone, this is fact.

I'm looking for a pup in bridgeposition that'll give me very punchy and crunchy and growling low-end when distorted. But is also very clear, with all notes accented well (think EMG's @18v but in passive).

also a single coil in the neck. This has to be somewhat more bluesy in sound, but has to give me pristine cleans foremost. Again being very clear and accenting all notes well (emg 18v).

    What would you guys suggest?

Shredmonster, what are those Hawaiian pick-ups you talk about so avidly? Aerodyne's or something I believe they were called?

    Thanks all!
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

I like Evans. They sound clear and noise free even when driven hard, kind of like having EMG silence in a passive pickup..........

Shredmonster's thing is Aero... just Aero. No -dyne.

If Dreamland_Rebel shows up in this thread, he'll say APC pickups just like in the good old days.

        Thanks guys!

I'm checking out the Evans soundclips now. Gigantic noise reduction, wow.

        Aero, that's it Alex! thanks!

Man, I am very impressed by the sound of this Evans sc in neckposition!

Check the solosection in the middle! Wow that's some incredible clean blues tone there.

I'm wondering though, would it not get muddy on a Les Paul type guitar, instead of in a strat.

Which custom you talking about, The Sh-5 or the SH-11? I had the SH-11 in my Gibson SG and it sounded killer, now i have the SH-5 and the SH-11 both sitting around and trying to figure out which one to put in.

                        TB-5, as it's a floyded guitar body.

OK but in general you are talking about the TB-5/SH-5 Pickups that you are trying to turn everyone onto? I have one of the SH-5's that i might try in my Les Paul Custom, but i also have the SH-11 that i pulled out of my SG before i sold it.

well, i'm not trying to turn everyone on to it, but yeah, the sh-5 has become my favorite pickup in most of my guitars. i do have one mixed with a jazz in an lpc, and i think it sounds pretty darn good to my ears.

I might have to try putting it in mine then, actually i am starting to think the other pickup i have is the SH-14 and not the SH-11. But I will try putting the SH-5 in my LPC.
