  • Gibsion Les Paul Smartwood....?

Anyone played one or better, own one? I've always wanted a Gibson and right now I love my Epiphone standard. I love the look of these smartwoods and they're very inexpensive for a Gibson. The looks beat a Studio in my opinion and the dot inlays... eh that doesnt bother me.

Nothing beats mahogany in a paul...nothing. I say between the two your better off with the epi. Or if you can afford it, get a Heritage 150.

Because they are made from different woods, and are thinner, they don't have that classic Les Paul sound. THey are nice guitars, but they are Les Pauls in name only. If you want an inexpensive Les Paul that's a real Les Paul, get a used early 90's studio. They were identical to the standard minus cosmetics, but with ebony boards as a plus. Very nice gutiars and they can be found used for about $650-$800 depending. There's a guy on the LPF advertising his 1993 wine red studio for $650.
