  • My Project: Charvel Star

All right folks, i'm a little late (finished that with luthier's help some months ago) but i'd like to share with you my new baby..if you want to hear something about her, of course

I came up with this idea around November/December 2011..I sold a DK2, a DK2M and a Fender Strat and i started thinking about getting someone new. I always liked strange vody shapes, such as Explorer, Flying V, RR and so on, and one day I saw an '80s Charvel Star, red metallic, strat neck, 2 humbs and so on..and I started building it!
Bought a Mighty Mite neck on eBay (compound 9.5"-12" radius, a sort of "C" profile, medium jumbos and 22 frets), OFR, a custom SD '59 white with short legs and 4c cable, a swamp ash body from Kne Guitars (great job and wood) and so on...

I had some issues with the neck pocket, it didn't fit very well so i had to work on it for a while and i had to bring the body to the luthier in order to make some holes and to paint it (i wasn't secure and i didn't want to ruin it with an awful paintjob)...

I also took of the satin finish from the neck and I refinished it in gun stock wax (yeah, there's no oil..i'll put it on..).

    Some pics:

    Bella, uh?

KnE bodies are nice and that is a very cool color.
Whats the reason you tilted the retainer bar?
    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Looks great. I would prefer pickup rings but that's just a personal taste thing.

With that color it looks like it needs some metal plates too!

I like everything except the retainer bar.

A few thoughts come to mind:

LOVE the color. That's just awesome
Definitely needs pickup rings with routs that big (Jeezas, those are some BIG routs)
Kudos to you for not putting a %$#%@ fake Charvel logo on there.

Have fun with it and rock on!

I actually like the pup routes with the direct mount pups. They are very unusual, and since you aren't going for the perfect, period-correct Charvel reproduction thing it gives it some personality.

Well, it was a matter of size!

Yeah, I wanted KnE to do these pup routes simply because i like them! In fact my idea was not to reproduce a Charvel
              Thanks.

The wiring: SD '59/JB, push/pull on the tone knob (very Strat sounding!)
              Finish: 2k bicomponent, Ferrari Red

OK I was curious, great looking guitar love the body shape.
Built one strat head star not long ago and it gets lots of playing time.

Agreed with Sully on the pickup rings. Very nice axe.
