  • 83 LP studio

After 7 years my old LP studio came up for sale so I grabbed it.
Serial number is 81123561 so its an 83 as are the pots BUT the studio wasn't introduced until 84 so the book says.
I assume its an early one.It has turned a very nice yellow over time.
All original down to the pots and caps even the 57 pick ups.
Got the OHSC and a nice 50's style Gator case too.
This guitar smokes just like it always did.Huge fat tone and playes like a dream.

    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Very nice. I had a LP custom a while back where the finish had aged to a nice yellow like yours. Yours doesn't seem to have the larger headstock of that time period, or is it the pic? Also, I believe that the studio line was introduced in '83 so yours is a very early one.

that's an odd one; the first batch of studios had binding, too. my step dad had one in a dark burst/brock burst kind of thing. man, i loved that guitar.

I believe that the ones with binding were the studio standards.

I had an 84 studio STD and it had binding.
This one has the reg headstock I think the angle of the pic makes it look that way.

Well I got to thinking the 57 classic pick ups came out in 89 or there abouts so I pulled the pick ups to check and low and behold they are the originals and are Shaw PAF's 137 and 138 dated 3/83.
These pick ups bring insane money on gbase and ebay so I'm a happy camper.

That's what my 86 studio had in it for pickups. Great pickups for classic rock/blues.

My old studio in ferrari red(looks pink in my pics)...

Sweet guitar, I love how the color has aged...very RR-like. Those pickups do bring stupid money for what they are...it would be tempting to sell them.

As for the model year/serial number, I have a Fender with a similar strange issue. It has an '89 serial number on the headstock (the model was released in '89), but the neck heel has April '90 written on it???
