• KE-3 Kelly

Hi i'm new here i'm 14 and I play 80's glam rock (hair metal) like probably a lot of Charvel/Jackson user...

My favorites band are: Scorpions, Motley Crue, Ratt, Dokken, Yngwie Malmsteen & the Rising Force ( YM is not really glam but...)etc

So the subject I want to buy a Jackson KE-3 Kelly... I heard that the Duncan Designed pickups wheir cr@p so I'll change for Seymour Duncan JB. Why a Kelly because, I like the explorers bodies. So do you think it's a good guitar? Ohh and a KE-2 is too expensive for me.

Sorry for my English I still learn.

    Re: KE-3 Kelly

the ke-3 is a nice shape, but the sound and balance are entirely different matters.

    1. try out some guitars that have the pickup you're interested in. but don't automatically assume that all pre-installed pickups are crap just because of their namesake. i had a jackson js-1 with non-branded pickups, but it still sounded sweeter than the nj series bc rich i had that cost 4 times more.

    2. a few people complain that the neck drops when you let go to reach a fret that's beyond your hand span so make sure you're happy with this.

as you're probably aware, the kelly needs a larger case so it makes sense to get the right one to protect your investment.

C ton argent!

        For non-french

I was basically saying its a good guitar but the no.1 rule here in Quebec city is not to buy from our local store for jacksons. They sell everything to high...

It's like I wonder when they will sell that 2700$can Red Blue pearl SL-1 at my local guitar shop...

          Re: KE-3 Kelly

I have a black KE3 that I bolted up a DK-1 (bound ebony with real MOP sharkies) neck too. I like the Duncan Designed pickups it came with - but there have been a few different versions. My KE3 came with the HB102N and HB103B (F spaced). This supposed to be the same as the Duncan Distortion Mayhem set (Seymourizer neck, DD bridge). The issue I have is with the neck pickup. I have a Seymourizer and the resistance is almost 13K. The Duncan Designed HB103N has a resistance under 8K.

If you don't have a lot of guitars, I can't say don't go for the JB - I have a Duncan Designed JB (HB102B) in the bridge of my DK-2 and I love the tone.

Also, different Kellys came with different pickups - some with ones that look like Invaders. If your Kelly comes with an HB103B, you might be happy with it.
