• Grovers Exit

I`d just like to know when exactly did Grover leave the company in 1989. I have two `89 made guitars, JA 0097 and J 5229 amongst my collection. Were both of these guitars built before the great man left. By the way, I`m just waiting for my first Warrior bought of e-bay in Snakeskin finish. I can`t wait until I get my hands on it. Steve, that was a smooth Warrior you got, I saw it, was tempted. Well, I know that Grover sold the Jackson company around 1986 but remained on as president until 1989. I believe he left in late '89 because by the spring of 1990 the production models began as well as some new models, such as the Warrior.

Re: Grovers Exit

From 1984 until 1989 Grover spent a lot of time in Japan and Korea setting up mass production for guitars and parts.
Why Great?? not sure of that statement. He was a man though

Re: Grovers Exit

Since I never dealt with the man personally, I have experienced his craftsmanship, as well as that of his students (San Dimas Soloist, Japanese Jacksons made just like USA Jacksons), so I'd say he was a great luthier. I mean, you have to be good before you can teach others how to be good, right?

Yes, but Leo talked to guitarists of the day, he didn't do a Homer Simpson and create a giant ugly guitar with twin cup-holders and a dome...

C'mon, without Grover, none of us would be at this board, he gave us the first Charvel guitars, then the Jackson line. This ain't the Wayne Charvel Forum.

If you can't play em that doesn't mean you can't build em.

Without Wayne, Grover might still be selling Anvil cases.....

And without Grover Oscar and Big Bird wouldn't have....

Hang on....without Grover who knows what Wayne would have done by himself, but luckily he sold his debts and name and great guitars came along. He's been playing catch up for ages now. The Wayne line may be great old style guitars (newer ones maybe not) but they are nothing to do with his heritage.

Grover was an amazing project director... he had some kind of a vision and saw that his employees made guitars that were great!

Hats off to Grover!

Wayne never built a thing! he was a parts man, he used Boogie Bodies and Boggie necks and slapped a logo on them, Grover took over in 79 and then they started building thier own necks and bodies not long after they got the shop in running condion after Wayne almost bankrupted it!this storie came from the mouths of the guy's who were thier!

Grover really kinda didnt sell, he sort of brought in a partner, Tommy Moore, AKAI corp. tommy was after grover for a while so i hear, but when Grover had to move the S D plant it was big time dough and he needed the help, i wish he just called out favors from all the guys who loved him for a partnership or loan, im sure robbin and Warren would have stepped up to the plate and made a good investment too, but cant rewrite history
