Re: Jackson, GMW, Ibanez, PRS, Ernie Ball ??????

My favourite guitars are either of my GMWs or my Axis: I'd say play them all and make your call.....

If you need to consider resale values, I'd have thought that GMW's will drop most, but the only one that'll really hold it's value is the PRS....

If you intend to keep it, I tend to think that Ibanez don't last as well - older Ibanez always look like they've really been around the block to me.

      Ibanez JPM100P1

or a GMW Replica of this guitar (which would run me over budget).
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

PC1. Hands down. Versitile, best tone I have heard in any guitar and clean sounding notes. Very loud accoustically unplugged.

I would recommend looking up some of the PC1 posts in this forum.

I have owned a PRS and a JEM. Have played the AXIS.

JEMS have cheap parts and feel cheap. They are not accoustically very good unplugged - one of the ways you judge a good guitar. Therefore, they dont have good tone unless in a heavily processed environment.
Yeah they have good harmonics and you can get a lot of different noises out of them but not good tone. And the neck is too thin to anchor your hand for good vibrato.
Also, the floating trem pulls way back when you do vibrato lessening the vibrato as you perform it.
It has that classic Ibanez buzz saw sound and I went through several pups. They just are not a quality guitar and I had mine for 4 years.

PRS have a different scale length than Jackson or Ibanez. More of a Gibson feel. It was OK but not a great guitar.

I would bet most of the guys recommending an Axis or GMW have never played a PC1. Unless you have played one you have no idea how great of a guitar they are. They are custom shop quality and second to none in tone.

I currently own an Axis, a GMW(your old ASM replica), a PC2, and two PRS CE's. I had a Jem years ago, a green one with maple board, signed and numbered by Vai.

If it were my money I would buy the Axis, if your heart is set on new, followed by the PC1. The PRS/JEM are cool but not in the same league as the EBMM or PC1, in my opinion.

It's tough having to make such difficult choices, isn't it?

I could find a PRS McCarty and that would be the one.

I would say out of what you have listed go with a GMW. I have had mine for about 1 1/2 years and it is my main player. Great quality and the feel of them is second to none. Go out and play what you think you like and then pick what you like. For $1500 you can get a real nice GMW made.

Ervin, don't get a Jem. And, yes, this is coming from me. I've been through 4 Jems (7DBK, 77FP, Jem2KDNA, and 7VSBL) and had different problems with all of them. And, believe it or not, the DBK was my favorite out of all of them. I just bought a 2002 RG3120 with mahagony body and maple cap, like the PC1. The pickups are the Tone Zone and PAF Pro. I've had two PC1's (one of which was yours!) and the 3120 reminds me of a PC1 except with a more playable neck, for me anyways.
Good luck with your search. I'm glad my search is over...
