hell yeah now you can note ven custom order the guitar because
1. Strat Head Charvels are NOT a custom order option at this time
2. Jackson will no longer do protected/copyrighted graphics

Bummer indeed....

i hear ya chuck; but i'm speculating with the 2500. the cost of doing that graphic (i believe, according at one time to the gmw site) is $1200. it potentially would have been closer to, or over $3000. and i don't think that we would have been too successful in finding enough people to participate.

Realistically what is the chance that JCF-YCE Charvel can be done for us Charvel fans? As it stands Jacksons 2 - Charvels 0.

For all intents and purposes, this was already done: the Bullseye Reissue. That would've never happened without JCF shepharding of the project (KMaynard) and JCF buyers. Unofficially, it's JCF-YCE 1 & 1/2 as far as I'm concerned.

As to the Heineken strat, if a slot were to become available, I'd be all over it. No matter price. ANY JCF strathead would've been killer, for that matter. Sad that the series was laid to rest. But I understand the reasons for doing so.

Re: Why were the JCF-YCE rules abandoned?

Well there was obviously a lot of love and reverence put into the YCE guitars and a lot of strong feelings on what's happened since. I was just throwing out a trial balloon about maintaining the original rules because obviously none of the original owners had problems agreeing to those terms when they entered the series, and I think the intent of those rules were very cool and honorable. But if the genie is out of the bottle, then the genie is out of the bottle.

Tetsuo, I never said I should know the original price of the guitars, only that, if the rules were still enforced, I would have agreed to them at the time of my purchase (which, yes, reveals the price to me).

If I ever sell my matched set, the next owner already knows who he is, and he knows what price he'll get them at. Again, I'm not trying to be holier than thou. That's just my personal feeling on what my obligations to the series ought to be after being stupid lucky for getting my hands on a matched pair. Besides, I've never made a dime off of ANY guitar, so why start now?! At the same time, I don't begrudge anyone from selling theirs on their own terms. They freely obliged by the rules when they were in effect, and now there are no rules, and last I heard, we were living in the U.S.A.

Rock on.

[/ QUOTE ] I wish so too, because if this flipping is what killed off the series, that pisses me off. I got in on the series to get myself a unique NEW J/C guitar each year. I am done buying USA models new. The bargain is in used USA's. But the JCF series was something different than a standard issue select, and I was looking forward to 03, although I thought the camo star was going to be the model we would get I still would've been in for the Strat.

Oh well, I have my set of JCF guitars and they aren't going anywhere.

I don't think we even know what the true value of a JCF guitar really is. A real "completed" eBay auction for a JCF-02 has never happened and it's been a long time since a JCF01 hit eBay. While I am curious as to what they would bring and what their true value is, I'm of the "you can have my JCF Guitars when you pry them from my cold dead fingers" school of thought.

Re: Why were the JCF-YCE rules abandoned?

One of the original rules was that if the series is ever killed, all rules regarding resale and price at which you can sell them for are suspended. Originally we had discussed (and agreed to IIRC) a 5-year plan - if the series had continued for 5 years, with one model each year, then #1 could be sold on the open market for whatever one could get 5 years after it was made, even though the other 4 could only be sold for their original price until their 5 years were up.

I see no sense in keeping the original rules alive if the series is dead. Yes it would make it easier to buy them, but even with a "gentleman's agreement" regarding the price now that the series is dead, there's always the possibility and the freedom of one owner going for Ebay's broader market.

As I understand it, Fender made some Strats for the Fender Forum's small Buyer's Group thing, and they got a very low price on them, then many (if not most) were quickly tossed onto Ebay for well over what they paid. That was mentioned back when 01 was being made and the rules were being hammered out. Most/All of the YCE buyers agreed that was quite a sh1tty thing to do, and decided that this series would not be like that.

As for how you got in on JCF-01 - an open enrollment post similar to the recent Limited/Special Runs was made, and slots were filled on a first-come basis, with the stipulation, IIRC, that you had to be an active member of a certain standing. There wasn't a "Junior/Senior" system like we have now, it was more or less "who's just lurking, who's contributing, and who's always giving someone sh1t about something".

Also, IIRC, there was some mention of this series NOT being about the future resale/profitability (despite the "Collector's Edition" tag), but more of a Guitars for the Fans, By the Fans sort of thing.
Looking back, I wonder if we could/should have gotten them without numbered serials? Just "JCF YCE" followed by the edition (01, 02, etc) and no other numbers? Standard serialization and the number-trading and number-claiming always seemed to me to be about the future resale (i.e. "If a lower numbered slot opens up, I wanna move to that slot", etc), and not about what the guitar meant to J/C History.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood
