• Birdseye

    Well,

I'm really wanting a jackson/charvel with a birdseye maple neck/board. I can't think of any models that I've seen on this site with birdseye. But being a relative newbie to Jackson/Charvel's (3 years) I know there are many models out there that I have yet to see.

Anyone know of a particular model. I would love a single hum, birdseye neck/board, 24 3/4 scale, and floyd. Also w/ a reverse headstock!! Yum!!

    Thanks!

Most Charvels and Jacksons are 25.5 scale. Birdseye would probably have to be a custom order from Jackson's custom shop if you want the shorter Les Paul scale length with a birdseye neck. If you want a guitar to those specs, I'd consider a GMW. Their stuff is in some ways even superior to the new Charvel / Jackson guitars in pricing / build quality / looks.

The fretboard on the PC1 is flame maple, so no joy there either. There hasn't really been a procuction Jackson with a birdseye maple/maple neck, it's usually normal maple and if you get some birdseye, it's a bonus. Necks have come with birdseye like on the PC1 and the SD series of guitars but they had rosewood or some other fretboard.

Getting birdseye and the scale you want, you are looking at a custom guitar, all the way. Same for reverse headstock.

That Jackson with natural pointy headstock looks so different, but really cool.

                Re: Birdseye

Some of the mid-90s Charvel reissues had birdseye necks. But I think they were all rosewood or pau ferro fretbaords. But with all of the specs you've described, you're definitely into custom order territory only.

And since we're sharing birdseye guitar porn, here's some more. Can you say bonus quilt and flame figuring, too?

Doh!! I was afraid that the custom shop was going to be the answer. Unfortunately I don't have that kind of coin right now Some really nice looking birdseye pics posted too!!

I'll check out the GMW guitars. What about Kramer <gulp> anyone know if they have any short scale birdseye's??

                  Thanks

                            Re: Birdseye

Most old timers will remember that that guitar was made by luthier here in Canberra, Australia. I really, really liked my Koa Charvel SD1 so he pulled it apart and built this from it's measurements, just using very different woods.

The birdeye body binding is a very nice touch to compliment the neck!

The Jackson birdsye neck with ebony sharkies is my favorite neck with a pointy headstock other than a birdseye Charvel strathead! Nice stuff!
