• Why do they do it ?????

I've seen a lot of Jackson RR's on ebay and a lot of other places. The only problem I find is that it seems everyone takes the original pickups out and replaces them with EMG's.

Why ?????????

The original duncan pickups on these sound amazing. Why would you change ? I must confess that I own an RR Pro with EMG's and it doesn't sound 1/2 as good as my RR-1 with the duncans. I bought it after the pickup change was made, because it was such a good deal I couldn't pass on it. I fugured I could change the pickups back to the Duncans later, just haven't got around to it yet.

So why did they do it ? Or why did you ?

Just wondering

I've removed Duncans before, but not from an RR. My GMW came with them, a JB and I went as long as I could with it in there and finally had to pull it (about 2 weeks). I went with DiMarzios not EMGs though. I hear so many say they love the JB and I could never get used to it.

But hey that's why there are all these companies, different strokes for different folks.

Its all about what you like. If you like EMGs, the Duncan's aren't going to do it for you and vice versa. No big deal at all.

I removed the Duncans from my RR1t and put in BBQ buckers. I find the JB too harsh (trebly) in an alder guitar. The BBQ's are so much smoother and have a good classic rock chunk when you turn them up.

Not EMG's but they are swapped.

Personal choice! I would only ever retrofit EMGs, but usually leave std fit Duncans in if they are there....

Because sooooooo many people buy into the hype that they'll sound better than passive pickups, and/or they'll sound like (enter name of whatever famous player ALSO bought into the hype).
However, I did have an RR-1 with a JB in the bridge. I do not like the JB humbucker. I like the JB Jr mini-humbucker, but the full-sized humbucker sounds weak and farty to me. For a Rhoads, I prefer the Distortion in the bridge, and the Jazz MUST be in the neck.
I've got guitars with EMGs in them, and have had other guitars with EMGs, and I don't play the ones with EMGs half as much as I do the ones with Duncans, because EMGs just don't live up to the hype.

I do like the sound of certain EMGs but I am pretty much a brand-wh0re when it comes to pickups in that I am willing to try anything out.

I am not really fond of EMGs, but I like the 85. I would never ever alter a guitar with passive PUs to EMGs but, when they are in, I change them to 85's and that is fine with me as well

Dreamland Rebel it was only a matter of time before we saw your post, or boast about APCs again .
To each his own, I use EMG's in everything but I used alot of Rack gear before where they are more effective. Now I use a simple floor board prossecor. I don't get the same effect from them as before & have been leaning back to Seymour Duncans again. When I get an RR1 I will probably do the Zakk thing 85 bridge 81 neck I've been loving that for a while now, it's whats in my steinberger right now. I would give the Duncans a shot first before just ripping them out. If I can get the nasty ass bottom distortion tone I expect then they're keepers.

Re: Why do they do it ?????

Changing pickups are the easiest way to mess with your sound.
I don't think it is a big deal seeing these with different pickups.
If you ended up buying a guitar that has EMGs, you can always put different pickups you prefer and get rid of EMGs.

APCs are all over the board.
Very soon when you type APC, it will spear as xxx.
