  • Phil Collen painted guitar on Pawn Stars

Just watched the latest Pawn Stars episode and they gave a lady $8500 for one of the guitars that Collen painted. It was #3 of 30. I didnt think they would go for that much.

I was offered one for 2500 and passed LOL Kind of regret it a bit though...
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

      1. And for the $8500 purchase price, they are going to sell it for $30,000.
      2. They have the clientèle and business networking, to be able to sell it to high end collectors (guitar, band, art, etc) to be able to get that kind of money. We will never be able to sell ours to anyone for $8500.
      3. I can imagine a day, when he is old, saying to himself - I am glad I born when I was, I don't see me becoming a billionaire writing songs called Selfie, JK-in', Transitioned, and Pour some Stevia Extract on me - if I had been born 20 years later.
      4. I can also imagine a day when DL is gone, and PC is broke and penniless, sitting in a dark room in a wheelchair, thinking to himself - if I paint some guitars, I can sell them and pay my rent.

          Probably not my best work.
But I was thinking Women, from Hysteria.
I thought Tranny would be rude. So, I went with transitioned. Maybe Transitioners?

And in case anyone didn't get the other refereces:

          Selfie = Photograph
          JK-in (just kidding) = Foolin'
Stevia (a sugar substitute) = Pour some Sugar on me

No, it wasn't about the changelings.
I was making a joke about if he wrote those songs today. He wouldn't be talking about the same things he was talking about in the 80's.

In modern society, it would be considered passe to write about women, so it would need to be about the getting your nuts hacked off.
Photographs don't exist anymore, its digital imagery. The most common form, being the selfie. Maybe instead of Photograph it could be "Screen shot" of a Skype video.
Sugar is 'evil', saccharin was the 90's, today it is Stevia.

I doubt they actually paid that much... $8500 was most likely only for show. The Vic Flick Strat they supposedly paid $55,000 went for $25,000 + 25% buyers on auction.

Nothing real or true about pawn stars
Whatever shows up there has been scripted
"There's nothing taking away from the pure masculinity I possess"

                  -"You like Anime"

                  "....crap!"

The fact that PC actually played the guitar (on camera) increased the value by a meaningful amount. That's why Rick jumped on it and paid up for it. Normally when Jessie says a guitar could be worth up to $8-10k like this one, Rick will start lowball bidding at half that price, and complain about all the fees, costs, effort, and time needed to sell it. In this case, he ended up paying a price right within Jessie's appraisal range. That's because Jessie's appraisal was made before PC played it.
