• boosting the volume of a wav/mp3 file

i got some mp3's that i want to burn onto a cd (legally )
but the volume on them is much lower than usuall cd volumes, so is there a programme i can get for free that can boost the volume, being able to convert files from mp3 to wav would also be a bonus (saves me doing it separately

any help greatly appreciated

similarly, i convert to .wav, import it to cakewalk, and normalize it.

Since you are looking for free, I was going to say you should get Cool Edit.

However, I just did a search and discovered that #$%^#&! Adobe recently acquired Trillium, the original makers of Cool Edit and Cool Edit Pro, and they are no longer offering any free version. What a surprise.

Either try to find an older version of Cool Edit, or find someone with Sound Forge. You'll often find Sound Forge LE bundled with some sound cards.

If you can't find any of these programs, and if you have a FTP site where I can transfer the files, I'll fix them up for you.

Come to think of it, if you have a recent version of any decent CD writing software, it should be able to do it for you.

Software like: Roxio Easy CD Creator or Nero Burning ROM will adjust the volume as you burn to CD. No need to convert to WAV first.

Right-Click MP-3 will convert from wav. to mp3. and back. It's free, and real easy to use. You can get it from Cnet I think. Just do a google search. I don't know how to alter volume of tracks though. If you find out, let me know!
